#13 Del icio us and bookmarking

Having all my bookmarks in one place and having them categorised is really something. Tagging is a really good way to organise my bookmarks it not only benefits me but others as well. My peers can use them too. It enables me to see what others are keeping track of and getting access to new and relevant material. I went into one called Query cat which had a mine of information and next time I want to know the correct size of a chandelier for a dining table I will no where too look for an answer.

This is a fantastic search tool and I would have loved to have had it when studying for my Bachelor of Arts. I have listed a few of the websites I like and use frequently. This tool would be an asset for students or for Reference librarians and definately has great potential.

#11 LibraryThing

This is a great way to catalogue a far cry from the Anglo American Cataloguing Rules. Do we all rember them? I find it interesting to see others who are likeminded in my choice of books and look at their reviews of my choices. LibraryThing makes cataloguing fun and more importantly is its simplicity. I found that I could have catalogued far more than the suggested five and did so anyway. Here is my bookshelf.

#10 Having Fun

wow I have had so much fun with this weeks exercise and spent way too much time on it. I believe I could play for a year and never get tired of all this amazing technology. However I finally decided on doing an image of myself, but creating a delft plate ran a close second. I still might have a go at it just to awaken my creative side which has been asleep for many a year.

#9 Search Tools

technology is at a point when science fiction isnt science fiction anymore. I found Google to be the easiest for me because I use Google as my preferred search tool anyway and therefore familiarity played its part but I found Feedster to be o.k for harnessing abundent rich information of RSS feeds. I added Incite library journal to my bloglines it is good to access journals relevant to ones interests

#8 RSS Feeds

I am using my sons computer for these exercises and he has an RSS feeder on it which he was not aware . Imagine how good I felt when I could explain to him what the RSS icon was and what it does. This is a great way to keep up with current information about topics of interest to you and would be very useful when wanting up to date information for our borrowers.

# Technology

What can I say about technology other than I have a fear of all things new but once embraced things are no where near as bad as first thought. Our library system Amlib is a continual learning exercise because there are still things to learn from it and about it. Mastering an ATM and an MP3 player was my next challenge and now I go most places with it, and somewhere in between came the digital camera.
I was watching the television the other day and was learning about a new technology from Microsoft called Surface. I believe it is what is called a surface computer which uses touch as its method of input rather than the mouse and keyboard. It turns your tabletop into an interactive surface which you can use for learning, creating and sharing, and I'm guessing awhole lot more.

It is supposed to break down barriers between people and technology and thats what drew my attention to it in the first place. Just what I've been looking for. I guess the only thing have to fear with new technology is the fear itself.
